i was going to title this scarlet fever, but that is a real disease! lol! i thought i would play with the kyoto colors filter and got this. i focused on the leaves but the exposure missed. i was actually doing a back light with high-key but my error in exposure gave this silhouette image. i thought it also turned out interesting.

This massive and intricately-decorated bell and pavilion was donated in 1976 to the people of Los Angeles by the people of the Republic of Korea to celebrate the bicentennial of the U.S. independence, honor veterans of the Korean War, and to consolidate traditional friendship between the two countries. The bell is patterned after the Bronze Bell of King Songdok, which was cast in 771 A.D. and is still on view in South Korea today.

The bell was cast in Korea and shipped to the United States. Weighing 17 tons, with a height of twelve feet and a diameter of 7-1/2 feet, the bell is made of copper and tin, with gold, nickel, lead and phosphorous added for tone quality. When it was built, it cost the Korean people $500,000. Four pairs of figures, each pair consisting of the Goddess of Liberty holding a torch, and a Korean spirit , are engraved in relief on the body of the bell. Each of the Korean spirits holds up a different symbol: a symbolic design of the Korean flag; a branch of the rose of Sharon, Korea's national flower; a branch of laurel, symbol of victory; and a dove of peace. The bell has no clapper but is struck from the outside with a wooden log.

The bell is set in a pagoda-like stone structure which was constructed on the site by thirty craftsmen flown in from Korea. It took them ten months and costs $569,680. The pavilion is supported by twelve columns representing the twelve designs of the Oriental zodiac. Animals stand guard at the base of each column.

Resting peacefully on the knoll overlooking the sea gate from which U.S. troops sailed into the Pacific, the bell site affords an unsurpassed view of the Los Angeles harbor, the Catalina Channel and the sea terraces of San Pedro hill. The bell is rung only four times each year: the Fourth of July, August 15 (Korean Independence Day) and New Year's Eve, and every September to coincide with bell ringings around the country to celebrate Constitutuon week.

One of the most identifiable monuments of Rajasthan and certainly the most striking landmark of Jaipur, Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), was built in 1799 AD by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. This five storeyed structure, having 953 casements with small lattice worked (Jali) windows, was designed by Lal Chand Usta. The Maharaja and the architect Usta, both devotees of Krishna, agreed on the distinct shape of the building that resembled the form of a mukut (crown) which adorns the Lord Krishna’s head. The times when royal ladies observed strict purdah (covering the face), the screened balconies provided the zenana (ladies of the royal household) an opportunity to watch processions and other festivities on the streets below without being seen by the undesirables and strangers.

Hawa Mahal was built in 1799 AD by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, the second and the younger son of Sawai Madho Singh-I (1750-1768 AD) of Jaipur, Rajasthan. Pratap Singh was born on December 2nd, 1764 AD and became the Maharaja in 1778 AD at the age of 14, after the sudden death of his elder brother, Sawai Prithvi Singh-II (1768-1778 AD). The young ruler got his mother and her close adviser, Feroz, killed and then ruled the Kachhawaha kingdom of Jaipur for 25 years.

Sawai Pratap Singh (1778-1803 AD) was a poet at heart and a connoisseur of arts and crafts. His rule witnessed a constant struggle with the Marathas and the Mughals that became a heavy drain on the royal treasury. Despite all the challenges, he got this unique monument, Hawa Mahal, built in 1799 AD. The exact reason for building this palace is not documented but the conclusion could be a desire to please his harem. Incidentally he also got married in 1799 AD.

No post processing here,i did all sharpening in my camera.I took advantage of the remaining light of sunset. 25 sec exposure at ISO 100 and cold color temp to give bluish hue

At last I managed to find time to embark on a little photohunt. Among other things I found was this old trailer which was probably custom built. It's one of those shots where I find myself with a forced angle. There was this rather new trailer thing next to it and I absolutely didn't want it in my image. The image is an HDR processed in Photomatix from 3 +/-2 stop bracketed exposures. The outcome was imported into Photoshop for curves, hue/sat adjustments and a vignette to draw out the subject. So if you need a place to stay you are probably welcome.

The Royal Arcade, Melbourne Australia, one of the 19th centuary shopping arcades in the CBD. The two figures are Gog and Magog, figures from Norse mythology. Have been interested in capturing multiple points of view in a single photograph for a while. This Time I have used photostich software, dodgy as image but kinda like the mental aspect of it.
